System requirements

Network Servers

Specifications required for a Server machine to run the Accredo Server are dependent on a number of factors, including the number of Users, type of network, and other applications running on the network. The OS on the Server machine must be the same as or later than the OS on every Client machine. When you open a Company, Accredo checks the OS for the Client and Server machines to ensure the combination is safe. If a warning message appears and you are unable to proceed, contact your QSP.

The Accredo application, Online Help, User Guide, and Report Viewer are installed in the Accredo directory when you install the Accredo Server. If you will be using the Accredo Server as a Client or as a Terminal Server, perform a separate installation of the Accredo Client on the Server. Accredo supports Windows Terminal Services.

Recommended minimum Network Server specifications:

  15-User site 4-User site
Processor Intel Dual Core or equivalent Pentium 4, or equivalent
RAM 2 GB 1 GB
Hard drive space 4 GB 2 GB
Hard drive speed 10,000 rpm or greater Whatever is supplied with the machine
Operating System Windows 2000 Server or Windows 2003 Server Windows Vista (Business & Ultimate), Windows XP Professional, or Windows 2000 Windows XP Home Edition is for home use only.
Installation media CD-ROM drive CD-ROM drive
Network 1GB 1 GB Network card, and Mbit switch 100 Mbit Network card, and 100 Mbit switch

Terminal Server

The OS on the Server machine must be the same as or later than the OS on every Client machine. The Accredo application, Online Help, User Guide, and Report Viewer are installed in the Accredo directory when you install the Accredo Server.

We recommend performing a separate installation of the Accredo Client on the Server for the Terminal Server Clients to run. So that updates can be applied without requiring all Users to exit Accredo. However, all Users must exit the Client before a new version will copy down. If you have User Access Times (on page 28) configured to force all Users out of Accredo each night, the new version will be available the next morning.

A bug in earlier versions of Windows XP and 2003 affects programs accessing data files on the Client or on the Server and those that perform byte range locking operations (as Accredo does), you may receive the Error Code 64 error message. Microsoft's recommended solution is to install Service Pack 2 of Windows XP or Windows 2003. We recommend asking the Network administrator to do this.

These specifications are recommended minimums for running Accredo as the principal application from Terminal Server. You should increase RAM and other specifications as appropriate if you will be running other applications in addition.

Recommended minimum specifications for Terminal Server networks running the Accredo Server:

Processor Twin 2 Ghz Pentium 4 Xeon, or Twin AMD Athlon MP
RAM 2 GB
Hard drive space 4 GB
Hard drive speed 15,000 rpm SCSI or greater Raid 5 or greater
Operating System Windows 2000 Server, or Windows 2003 Server, or Citrix Metaframe
Installation media CD-ROM drive

Workstation Client Machine

Recommended minimum specifications for running Accredo on a network Client:

Processor Pentium 4 or equivalent
RAM 512 MB
Hard drive space 250 MB
Operating System Windows Vista Windows XP Professional Windows 2000 Windows XP Home Edition is for home use only. Windows 2000, or Windows XP Professional Edition are for business use. The OS on the Server machine must be the same as or later than the OS on every Client machine. Windows 98 is not supported, Windows ME will not run Accredo.
Monitor 17" with 1024x768 video resolution
Internet/email Internet connection, and MAPI compliant email package or access to SMTP mail Server
Installation media CD-ROM drive
Network 100 Mbit Network cards (if applicable)

Printer Recommendations

The following recommendations apply to printers used with Accredo:

  • High quality laser printers for reports.
  • Printers with built-in memory.
  • Name printers consistently on the entire network.
  • If you are purchasing one or more printers, compare ongoing costs as well as initial purchase prices and make any purchase conditional on compatibility with Accredo.
  • Ensure the most recent version of the printer's drivers are installed on the relevant machine - these can be downloaded. The software shipped with a new printer can be out of date by the time the printer is installed.

Dot Matrix Printers

Dot matrix printers should be high-speed with drivers for the current Operating System. Depending on the size and type of paper you are using, you may need to setup custom paper sizes for dot matrix printers. This is often required for paper that is not a standard American size (8 ½ x 8" continuous feed forms).

Contact your QSP for assistance with setting up custom paper sizes.
